Green tea extract liver safety: what is known and what the bottle holds

Quick answer

Green tea extract liver safety is a real question: liver injury has been reported in some people using green tea products, mostly extracts in tablet or capsule form, and it is uncommon. Payarmin lists a green tea leaf extract 7th of 22 in a 200 mg blend, so at most 28.6 mg per 1 mL serving.

Can green tea extract harm the liver?

It can, rarely. Liver injury has been reported in some people who used green tea products, mainly extracts sold as tablets or capsules (NCCIH, Green Tea).

A cup of brewed tea is a different thing from a concentrated extract. The reports point at the concentrate, and the same source notes the injury is uncommon.

if you notice dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or pain in the upper right belly while using any supplement.

How much green tea extract is in Payarmin?

The label does not print it. It gives a 200 mg blend for 22 lines and lists green tea 7th.

Lines run from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)), so line 7 cannot exceed 200 / 7, or 28.6 mg per mL. On an even split each line gets 9.09 mg.

Ceiling at 2 droppers (1 mL each)57.1 mg of extract

Extract is not pure catechin, so the gap is wider than it looks. The label gives no catechin figure and no extract ratio.

Who should be careful with green tea in a supplement?

People with liver disease, anyone on medicines cleared by the liver, and anyone sensitive to caffeine should ask first.

  • Green tea contains caffeine, and guarana adds more on the same label.
  • At high doses it lowers blood levels of the beta-blocker nadolol (NCCIH, Green Tea).
Keep taking prescribed medicine.

A supplement does not replace it. Never change a dose on your own.

What is the safe reading of the green tea line?

Small in size, not zero in question: 28.6 mg or less per mL, and the label still deserves a read.

Compare it on the green tea and guarana page, the Supplement Facts panel and the side effects guide. We know of no store listing; the official checkout is where to order.

FAQ01

Green tea and liver: quick answers

Is brewed green tea risky for the liver?

The reports concern concentrated extracts in tablet or capsule form, not brewed tea (NCCIH, Green Tea). A brewed cup is a different exposure. Payarmin is an extract in a liquid base, so read its dose as an extract line.

Does Payarmin print how much caffeine it holds?

No. The label prints no caffeine line. Green tea and guarana both carry caffeine, and the 400 mg a day figure FDA cites for healthy adults is a useful ceiling to keep in mind (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?).

What should I tell my doctor about green tea extract?

Say it is a leaf extract inside a 22-line blend, give the 1 or 2 dropper dose, and mention every medicine you take. Supplements can interact with prescriptions (NCCIH, Using Dietary Supplements Wisely).
