The 8 amino acids in Payarmin: ceilings against studied doses

Quick answer

Payarmin lists eight amino acid lines in the lower half of its blend: glutamine, tyrosine, arginine, beta-alanine, GABA, ornithine, tryptophan and carnitine. Their label ceilings run from 14.3 mg down to 9.1 mg per mL. Studies used grams, so the gap is roughly a hundredfold or more.

Meter readings01

Which amino acids are in Payarmin?

Eight of the 22 blend lines are amino acids or close relatives, all in the lower half of the list.

In label order they are L-glutamine (14th), L-tyrosine (15th), L-arginine (16th), beta-alanine (17th), GABA (19th), L-ornithine HCL (20th), L-tryptophan (21st) and L-carnitine (22nd). Licorice compound sits at 18th and is not an amino acid.

Because the list runs most to least by weight, these eight are among the lightest lines. The sales page names none of them.

The ceiling math02

How much of each amino acid is in one Payarmin serving?

Each is capped at 200 divided by its place number, from 14.3 mg for glutamine down to 9.1 mg for carnitine.

The exact amounts are not printed. A ceiling is the most a line could weigh. Any of them could weigh far less, and the eight together cannot exceed the 200 mg blend.

An even split gives 9.09 mg each. The heaviest ceiling is only about 1.6 times that.

L-carnitine229.1 mg2-3 g a day (type 2 diabetes studies)

Worked example for carnitine: 3 g is 3,000 mg. At the 9.1 mg ceiling, 1 dropper (assumed 1 mL) gives 0.3% of that. Even 2 droppers give 0.6%.

Line 2203

Does the carnitine in Payarmin match the amount studied?

No. Trials in type 2 diabetes used 2 to 3 g a day, and the label caps carnitine at 9.1 mg per mL (NIH ODS, Carnitine).

A meta-analysis of those trials found lower fasting glucose, and larger trials are still needed (NIH ODS, Carnitine). The same source says healthy people generally do not need carnitine supplements, because the body makes it.

Any benefit seen at 3 g should not be assumed at a few milligrams.

Lines 14 to 1704

What about glutamine, arginine, beta-alanine and tyrosine?

They are sports-supplement amino acids, studied in grams, and the NIH fact sheet finds little or no performance effect for arginine and glutamine alone (NIH ODS, Exercise & Athletic Performance).

Arginine carries one more flag: after an acute heart attack it may raise risk of death (MSKCC, Arginine). Anyone with a heart condition should ask a physician first, as the label advises for known conditions.

Line 2105

Is L-tryptophan in Payarmin a concern with antidepressants?

It can be: L-tryptophan should not be used without medical advice alongside MAO inhibitors and other serotonin drugs (Drugs.com, L-tryptophan).

History matters here. In 1989, manufactured L-tryptophan supplements were linked to an outbreak of eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome; more than 1,500 people were affected (NORD, Eosinophilia-Myalgia Syndrome). Payarmin's maker is not named on the label, so we cannot place its supply chain.

The ceiling is 9.5 mg per mL, tiny beside diet. Still, anyone taking serotonin-active medicine should ask a pharmacist. Keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed.

FAQ08

Amino acid questions

How many amino acids are in Payarmin?

Eight of the 22 blend lines: glutamine, tyrosine, arginine, beta-alanine, GABA, ornithine, tryptophan and carnitine. They sit at places 14 to 22 and are capped at 14.3 mg or less per 1 mL serving.

Is there enough L-carnitine in Payarmin to matter?

Probably not at the studied level. Trials in type 2 diabetes used 2 to 3 g a day (NIH ODS, Carnitine), while the label ceiling is 9.1 mg per mL. Two droppers give at most 0.6% of 3 g, assuming 1 mL each.

Does the L-arginine in Payarmin affect blood pressure?

Arginine can lower blood pressure and may add to blood pressure medicine (MSKCC, Arginine). The label ceiling is 12.5 mg per mL, small beside gram studies, but tell your pharmacist if you take such drugs.

Can I take Payarmin with an antidepressant?

Ask your prescriber first. L-tryptophan should not be combined with MAO inhibitors or other serotonin drugs without medical advice (Drugs.com, L-tryptophan). Payarmin lists tryptophan at 9.5 mg per mL at most.

Are amino acids in Payarmin the reason for energy claims?

The bottle says it "Helps Convert Nutrients Into Usable Energy*", with an asterisk. No trial of the product is named, and these eight lines are among the lightest in the blend.
