Panax Ginseng in Payarmin: Line 12, 16.7 mg at Most

Quick answer

Panax ginseng aerial extract is the 12th of 22 lines in Payarmin's 200 mg blend, so one 1 mL serving holds at most 16.7 mg of it. Ginseng trials used about 100 mg to 20 g a day of mostly root, so the label ceiling sits below the smallest studied dose.

The ceiling01

How much Panax ginseng is in Payarmin?

Payarmin prints no ginseng amount, but its 12th place on the list caps Panax ginseng aerial extract at 16.7 mg per 1 mL serving.

Eleven lines weigh at least as much as ginseng does. Twelve lines at 16.7 mg would already total 200 mg, so ginseng cannot go above 200 divided by 12. It may weigh much less. An even split of the blend gives about 9.09 mg (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)).

The label says "Aerial", which means leaf and stem above ground, not the root most people picture. That matters because the research we cite is mostly about root.

Ginseng readings per day, assuming a 1 mL dropper
Droppers a dayEven splitLabel-order ceiling
1about 9.1 mgat most 16.7 mg
2about 18.2 mgat most 33.3 mg

The label does not print how much one dropper holds. We assume 1 mL; a smaller dropper lowers these figures.

Against the research02

What dose of Panax ginseng was studied for blood sugar?

Ginseng trials on blood sugar used a very wide range, about 100 mg to 20 g a day (Shishtar et al., PLoS One 2014).

A pooling of 16 randomized trials with 770 people found fasting glucose about 0.31 mmol/L lower, which is roughly 5.6 mg/dL, with high variation between studies. Fasting insulin and A1C did not change significantly (Shishtar et al., PLoS One 2014). The NCCIH calls the overall picture inconclusive and conflicting, though a 2022 review of 20 studies saw better fasting glucose (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng).

Put 5.6 mg/dL in context. NIDDK sets a normal fasting reading below 100 and prediabetes at 100 to 125 (NIDDK, Diabetes & Prediabetes Tests). An average change of 5.6 is about the width of one-fifth of the prediabetes range, and a single home reading can move by more than that from day to day.

100 mg (low end)16.7%33.3%
1,000 mg1.7%3.3%
20,000 mg (high end)0.08%0.17%

Even on the highest reading, Payarmin sits at one third of the smallest studied amount. And the trials mostly tested root, which is not the part on this label.

Root or aerial03

Is aerial ginseng the same as ginseng root?

No. Aerial ginseng is the leaf and stem of the plant, and it has a different make-up and a thinner research record than the root.

We found no trial of aerial extract at the label's amounts. The root studies are the closest evidence, so they are a guide, not proof for this ingredient.

  • Label wording: Panax Ginseng Aerial Extract, no extract ratio printed.
  • Photo above is a brand image of ginseng stems and leaves, not our lab.
  • Eleuthero, also called Siberian ginseng, is a separate line: number 5, covered in the adaptogens note.

The two are different plants. Reading "ginseng" twice on the list does not double the dose of either.

Cautions04

Does Panax ginseng interact with diabetes drugs or blood thinners?

It can. Ginseng might affect blood sugar and blood clotting, so people on diabetes medicine or blood thinners should check with a provider (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng).

Insomnia is the most common side effect, and ginseng may be unsafe in pregnancy (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng). Payarmin also carries caffeine from guarana and green tea, so a sleep effect could come from several lines at once. Our green tea and guarana reading shows the caffeine ceiling.

Keep taking prescribed medicine

A supplement is never a reason to stop or change a prescription. Low blood sugar, under 70 mg/dL for many people, brings shakiness, hunger and a fast heartbeat (NIDDK, Low Blood Glucose). If that happens, treat it first, then call your clinician.

Profile and neighbors05

Where does Panax ginseng sit in the formula?

Panax ginseng aerial extract is the 12th of 22 blend lines, after grapefruit and before raspberry ketones.

FAQ06

Panax ginseng questions, answered

How much Panax ginseng is in a dropper of Payarmin?

The label does not print it. Ginseng aerial extract is 12th of 22 lines in a 200 mg blend, so one 1 mL serving holds at most 16.7 mg, and an even split gives about 9.1 mg. We assume a dropper holds 1 mL.

Is the ginseng in Payarmin the root?

No. The label says Panax Ginseng Aerial Extract, meaning the above-ground leaf and stem. Most of the research we cite tested root, so it is a rough guide for this ingredient and not direct proof of anything in the bottle.

Does ginseng change fasting glucose?

Across 16 trials, fasting glucose averaged about 5.6 mg/dL lower with high variation, and A1C did not change significantly. Those results came from mostly root, at doses of 100 mg to 20 g. They do not describe Payarmin.

Can ginseng cause trouble sleeping?

Yes. The most common side effect of Asian ginseng is insomnia. Payarmin also has guarana and green tea, so morning use suits the label better than an evening dose. The sales page suggests the morning, before a meal.

Is Panax ginseng the same as Siberian ginseng?

No. Siberian ginseng is eleuthero, a different plant. Payarmin lists both: eleuthero at line 5 with a ceiling of 40 mg, and Panax ginseng aerial at line 12 with a ceiling of 16.7 mg.

Who should ask a doctor before taking ginseng?

Anyone on diabetes medicine or blood thinners, anyone pregnant or nursing, and anyone with a medical condition. The Payarmin label itself asks those groups and anyone under 18 to consult a physician before use.
