Panax ginseng and blood sugar: what the trials used, what the bottle holds
Panax ginseng and blood sugar have been studied together, and the results are modest and uneven. A pooled review of 16 trials found a small average drop in fasting glucose and no change in A1C. Payarmin lists Panax ginseng aerial extract 12th of 22 in a 200 mg blend, so at most 16.7 mg per mL.

Does Panax ginseng affect blood sugar?
In some trials, a little: 16 trials with 770 people found fasting glucose about 0.31 mmol/L lower on average, with no clear A1C change (Shishtar et al., PLoS One 2014).
| Fasting glucose | About 5.6 mg/dL lower |
|---|---|
| A1C | No significant change |
| Dose range | About 100 mg to 20 g a day |
How much Panax ginseng is in Payarmin?
The label does not say. It prints the 200 mg blend total per 1 mL and lists ginseng 12th of 22.
Lines are sorted by weight only (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)), so line 12 weighs at most 200 / 12, or 16.7 mg per mL. The trials' 100 mg low end was root; Payarmin names aerial parts.
| Reading | Amount |
|---|---|
| Even split of the blend | 9.09 mg per mL |
| Ceiling for line 12 | 16.7 mg per mL |
| Same ceiling at 2 droppers (1 mL each) | 33.3 mg a day |
| Trial low end (root) | About 100 mg a day |
Even at the ceiling, two droppers reach one third of the lowest root dose in the trials. The true figure is likely lower, since 11 lines weigh at least as much.
Is Panax ginseng safe with diabetes medicine?
Ask your prescriber first, because ginseng might lower blood sugar further and can affect clotting (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng).
A supplement is not a substitute. Never change a dose alone.

FAQ01
Ginseng on the label: quick answers
What does aerial extract mean?
Aerial means the parts above ground, such as leaf and stem, instead of the root. Most blood sugar trials used root, so their doses and results may not carry over to an aerial extract.
Does ginseng change A1C?
In the pooled review of 16 trials, A1C did not change in a statistically significant way (Shishtar et al., PLoS One 2014). Any effect seen was on fasting glucose, and it was small and varied between studies.
Can ginseng affect sleep?
Yes. Insomnia is the most common side effect named for Asian ginseng (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng). If you try Payarmin, notice whether sleep shifts and take the drops in the morning, as the label's use timing suggests.
