Extract ratio meaning: what 10:1 says and what it does not
An extract ratio such as 10:1 means about 10 g of dried plant went into 1 g of extract. It describes yield, not strength or quality. The Payarmin label prints no extract ratios at all. It gives one 200 mg total for 22 blend lines, so a ratio cannot be used to size any single ingredient.

What does a 10:1 extract ratio mean?
A 10:1 ratio means roughly 10 grams of dried plant material were used to make 1 gram of native extract.
Think of it as a meter reading for the factory, not for your body (Monagas et al., Front Pharmacol 2022). Higher is not automatically stronger; the authors call that a misconception.
| Printed | What it says | What it leaves out |
|---|---|---|
| 10:1 | About 10 g plant per 1 g extract | Which plant part, which solvent |
| No ratio | Nothing about yield | Everything above |
Does the Payarmin label list an extract ratio?
No. The Payarmin Supplement Facts panel prints no extract ratio for any of its 22 blend lines.
It prints a 200 mg total and lists names from most to least by weight, which the rules allow (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). Two blanks remain: the mg of each line and the yield behind it.
Gymnema is 8th, so it weighs at most 25 mg per mL. If that were a 10:1 extract, 25 mg would stand for up to 250 mg of leaf. Studies used between 200 and 400 mg of extract (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). The label gives neither figure, so the sum stays hypothetical.
Why can a ratio not tell you how strong a supplement is?
A ratio tracks yield, so it cannot tell you how much active compound sits in each serving.
Strength depends on the marker compound, its percentage, and the milligrams per serving. A ratio gives none of the three (Monagas et al., Front Pharmacol 2022).
Only the serving amount can be compared across bottles. Payarmin prints it for chromium (0.7 mcg) and as one 200 mg lump for the rest.

See packsWhat should you look for on a label instead of a ratio?
Look for milligrams per serving for each named extract, then a marker compound and its percentage.
A label with those three readings can be checked against studied doses. A label with a single blend total can only be bounded, by dividing 200 mg by the line number.

FAQ01
Extract ratio: quick answers
Is a 20:1 extract twice as strong as a 10:1 extract?
Not necessarily. The ratio only compares how much plant went in per gram of extract. Strength depends on the active compound content and the serving amount, and a ratio does not report either one (Monagas et al., Front Pharmacol 2022).
Can I work out the mg of one Payarmin ingredient from a ratio?
No, because there is no ratio to use. The best you can do is the ceiling: line k weighs at most 200 divided by k mg. The real figure may be far lower.
